A problem that affects all of us
All over the world bees are dying. While there are several reasons for their death, there is one simple thing all of us can do… PLANTING FLOWERS!
There are a lot of flowers and plants that are nutritious and delicious for bees. Some of them can even grow on a window sill.
Here are flowers which are perfect for little space:
- Fragrant lavender
Also, a lot of herbs are liked by bees:
- Borage sage
- Lemon balm
Rules to follow to have a bee-friendly garden:
- No mono-culture – Grow a wide variety of plants. To make this easy you can buy a flower-mix or ‘seed-bombs’ in garden-stores or online.
- Food year-around – Plant flowers and herbs with different blooming times. This assures that the bees can find food from early spring to late autumn.
- Only nutritious plants – Check beforehand if the plants are nutritious for bees. A lot of decorative balcony plants don’t provide any nutritious food for bees.
With these easy tips, everyone can grow bee-friendly gardens or balconies. Most plants can grow on the little space on a window seal and even a small balcony can provide food for a lot of bees. If more people start planting according to these rules, bees get provided with a new habitat and have a stronger change to survive.
